Between the atmosphere and the exceptional food (including a maple cream tart that lives on in my dreams) , this was a top-ten-dinners-of-my-life experience. In addition to the superior service the night we were there, I called a few months later to ask about something that had been on the menu and the manager Ashley went well out of her way to respond and help me. Hen of the Wood is a gem, and I can't wait to get back.
Nice special occasion restaurant. The quality of the food and ambiance were great. The prices were super high for what it was though, even compared to big city restaurants. Service was good but lacking in a few areas.
After hearing about Hen of the Wood all year, I finally got a chance to go. The coolest part about this place is the setting, the dining room is a gorgeous old building overlooking a stream with a rustic atmosphere yet upscale atmosphere. That paired with seasonal food and impeccable service makes for a truly special experience. The food is good, but not life changing. My steak was a little undercooked and under seasoned, the beets were very average as well. Stick with the small plates, and you should be good. The maple tart I had for desert was perhaps the single most memorable desert I have had in recent memory. Truly delicious!
Incredible experience all around. Food and wine were fantastic! Wait staff was gracious and knowledgeable. If you’re in the area give this place a try. You will not be disappointed!!
Beautiful space with a lovely daily menu. However the wait staff service didn’t give the touch that I expected for this price point. I enjoyed the skate cheeks and dessert, we chose the simple sorbet option. For the entree I was disappointed that the only vegetarian option was pasta. I had hoped for an original mushroom based dish or something ‘veggie creative.’
